Xiomara's 42nd birthday!

Xiomara's birthday is December 22, and we planned a surprise party for her.  She went to San Pedro Sula for the entire day, so we were free to clean and decorate without worry of getting caught.  The party was at my host-grandparent's house because they have a lot of space, so Leti and I cleaned the whole house and yard in the morning.  After lunch, we set up all of the decorations and tables while Maira, Xiomara's brother's wife, prepared the food at her own house.  We didn't know for sure when Xiomara would get back from the city, but since my host-grandparent's house is right behind our house, we figured she would see the decorations and hear the music right away.  She was still surprised and really appreciated everyone's effort.  December 22 is also my host-parent's wedding anniversary (as well as my real parents, Happy Anniversary Mom and Dad!) so the party turned into a joint celebration.  Everyone commented that I must think living in Honduras is one giant party, because they basically turn any occasion into a giant party.  It was really fun though, and pretty.  I enjoy being with my host-family and am lucky to have them, especially when I can't be with my real family!

Setting up for the party.  Leti and I have blisters on our fingers from tying so many balloons.

My little cousin Roger was teaching Edwin a special hand shake and getting frustrated because Edwin wasn't doing it right.

Yoni cleaning chairs in the middle of the party...  (He is a very sweet boy, of about 15 years old, and has a few learning disabilities.  He likes to follow me around every chance he gets and tell me how pretty my hair is.)

With Santa Claus!  (They don't actually believe in Santa Claus or follow that tradition at all, but they like the decorations.)

Everyone cheering for them to share a kiss before cutting their anniversary cake.
